Historically Black Colleges and Universities – Undergraduate Program

Due to the country’s increasing need for talent in the area of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), the Historically Black Colleges and Universities – Undergraduate Program (HBCU-UP) has been designed to encourage underrepresented minorities to pursue careers in these areas.

HBCUs have awarded a large amount of degrees in the STEM fields at the undergradaute level, as well as the doctorate level. The HBCU-UP has committed to enhancing the quality and value of STEM education at HBCUs across the country. HBCU-UP provides awards to develop, implement, and study evidence-based innovative models and approaches for improving the preparation and success of HBCU undergraduate students.

Support is available for the following projects:

  • Targeted Infusion Projects
  • Broadening Participation Research Projects
  • Research Initiation Awards
  • Implementation Projects or Achieving Competitive Excellence Implementation Projects

    I am a minority student holding a masters stems degree wanting to pursue a doctoral degree in another stem field. I think this would be a great opportunity to increase the underrepresentation of minorities in these areas.

      The Accelerator is not affiliated with HUBC-UP. We are a publication from the American Society for Engineering Education that found this undergraduate program and thought it was good resource for our readers.
